Can you identify fraud?

Don't Fall Victim to Fraudsters

Scammers can use software that makes it look like GENCO or another financial institution is texting, calling or emailing you. This causes you to believe the call is trustworthy. These fraudulent calls almost always begin with the caller/messenger asking you to verify your account information. Never provide or confirm personal or financial information during any communication that you do not initiate.

GENCO will never call you requesting personal information. Delete these messages.
If you receive any communications like this immediately call us directly at 254-776-9550
and let us know what you received.

Protect yourself

The best thing GENCO recommends is to have added security to your debit card. GENCO offers a FREE service called CardSecure. With this service you get real time alerts via text message anytime your debit card is used. If a charge occurs without your approval you can immediately turn your card off from your phone. Its that quick! You can download this app today and begin using it right away. Learn More

If you feel you have been a victim of fraudulent phishing a good first step is to check your accounts. Log into your account on-line and review all charges. Another long-term step is to always monitor your credit report for any suspicious activity.

You have a right to a free credit report every twelve months from each of the three nationwide credit reporting companies. Order all three reports at once, or order one report every four months. To order, go to annualcreditreport.com(opens in a new window) or call 1-877-322-8228.

September 21, 2020 Update:

Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Update for our Members:

Our Branch Lobbies are Opening for Business
With Limitations

First I want to thank all of our members for your patience and understanding during this time that we have had the branch lobbies closed due to the pandemic. It is always our goal to provide you the highest level of service possible in the safest manner that we can. At GENCO, the health and safety of our members and employees will continue to be a top priority and we will continue to follow all federal, state, and local government guidance. We are pleased to announce that all GENCO branch lobbies will now re-open during normal business hours on Monday, September 21, 2020 with a few changes and limitations.

We all now understand the term social distancing and the requirement for face coverings when you enter the office. To help ensure social distancing within our offices, you are going to notice the same changes as the first time we reopened back in May-2020.

1. First we will be limiting the number of members who can enter any branch office
at one time and you will see floor signage to promote spacing.
2. You will see plexiglass shields at the teller stations and on the desks of our                    financial service representatives for your protection.
3. If all our financial service representatives are busy and there is no waiting room in
the lobby, you will be asked for your cell phone number and to wait in your car.
We will call you back on your cell phone in the order received to enter the lobby.
4. You are required to wear a face covering when entering the building. We will ask
for your identification as you enter the door and we will ask you to temporarily pull
down your face covering so we can identify you.
5. If you have on a face covering and any other garments covering your face or head
such as sunglasses or a hoodie, we will ask you to remove the sunglasses or
hoodie while you are in the lobby.
6. If you choose to use the lobby, we ask you to limit the number of people you bring
to the credit union to only those needing to sign and conduct business.

Electronic Services, Call Center & Drive-thru

In order to reduce traffic and wait times in the lobby, we encourage all members to keep using our electronic and Drive-thru services as well as the Call Center. We will continue to offer the expanded services in the drive-thru that began when we closed the lobbies back in July. We are also serving many members through our Call Center which you can reach at 254-776-9550 or 1-800-922-6428 during normal business hours. Whether you need to open a new account, make a deposit, get cash, apply for a consumer or mortgage loan, get a money order, get a new debit card or credit card, etc. we can take care of you.

As always, you can access your accounts remotely 24/7 via Online Banking, Mobile Banking, and Phone Banking (254-751-0660 or 800-758-7729) or access our ATM’s for cash. These electronic self-services will greatly reduce your wait times during periods of high volume. You can complete on-line loan applications, view your account balances, pay your bills, make account transfers and much more utilizing these electronic self-service options.

Thank You for your business and for being so loyal through this difficult time. We know these changes are less than perfect but they are necessary for the health and safety of everyone. We certainly appreciate your continued support as we work through this situation together.

Sincerely,

Neil Ling
President

COVID-19 Stimulus Checks

In order to provide assistance for Americans affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, our federal government has put together the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security CARES ACT. The stimulus package includes checks that will be distributed within the next coming weeks. Here's what you need to know about the stimulus checks.

Published on Apr 13, 2020

How much money will be disbursed?

The plan provides $1,200 to individual taxpayers, $2,400 to married couples filing jointly, and an additional $500 per qualifying child under the age of 17 to families. However, there are income restrictions. If you earn more than $75,000 as an individual taxpayer, $112,500 as a head of
household, or $150,000 as a couple, the amount you're eligible for will decrease. For additional information on payout amounts and qualifications, please see the official CARES ACT.

Check on the status of your Economic Impact Payment

For information on your payment status, your payment type, or whether the IRS needs more information from you, including bank account information, follow this link:

If you are a "Non-Filer" (if you don't file taxes) you will need to enter your information online to receive your check. Follow this link:  Non-Filers:  Enter Payment Info Here

If you are a "filer" and need to update your personal information you can do so online.
Follow this link: Get My Payment

How will you receive your payment, and when?

Stimulus payments will be direct deposited into the bank account listed on your 2019 tax return or your 2018 tax return if you haven't filed last year's tax return yet. If you did not have direct deposit set up on your tax return, your stimulus check will be mailed to you.

The IRS began making direct deposit payments (April 15th, 2020) to people who have direct deposit information on file with the agency. In the coming weeks, the IRS will begin sending out paper checks, starting with people with the lowest income first.

Treasury Checks for Economic Impact Payments and Treasury Check Verification Application

Treasury Checks for Economic Impact Payments: The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service (Fiscal Service) will start printing and mailing economic impact payment checks, beginning with checks with a pay date of April 22, 2020, and weekly thereafter. Checks will be mailed daily beginning on Saturday, April 18, 2020, until the checks are delivered, with twice daily mail pick-ups beginning Monday, April 20, 2020. Estimated check volume is approximately 5 to 7 million checks per week.

 Stimulus Check Scams

The IRS is urging taxpayers to be on the lookout for scammers trying to use the economic impact payments as a cover for ways to get your personal account information. Please remember the following:

• The IRS will not call, text, or email you or contact you on social media asking for personal or bank account information.

• Watch out for emails with attachments or links claiming to have special information about economic impact payments or refunds.

• Beware of anyone who offers you a fee for faster check processing. The government will not issue any checks earlier in exchange for money.

A good rule of thumb is that you do not need to provide anyone with any personal information in order to receive the stimulus check.

Wise Ways to Use Your Stimulus Check

The best use of the stimulus check may depend on your personal circumstances. If your essentials are currently met, leave that money safe in your account for unforeseen expenses.
Your financial well-being remains our top priority. If you have any questions or concerns, we're here to help you. Please reach out to our team via email at gencofcu@gencofcu.org.
